The Graduate School, along with the Postgraduate Research student (PGRs) reps, have planned a trip for PGRs to walk the famous Pen-Y-Fan mountains in the Brecon Beacons on Wednesday 1 June 2022.

The event has been organised to allow PGRs to network, enjoy the beautiful mountain ranges of Wales, and to generally get away from their desk, office or lab for a chat whilst doing some physical activity.

There are several routes to walk Pen-Y-Fan, but to cater for all fitness levels, we have decided to take the route from Pont ar Daf up to Pen-Y-Fan and back to the Storey arms, which is roughly four miles. Please find a link of the route here.

Free coach transport will be provided from Treforest, but you will need to bring water and a packed lunch and remember to dress appropriately. Detailed health and safety information will be provided when you book.

Adam Jones, the PGR student rep who is leading the trip, said:  “During my time in the military, I found that doing physical activity with a group really helped me to cope with stressful or emotional times. There’s something about talking whilst engaged in physical activity that encourages you to open about difficulties. Of course, sometimes it is purely a laugh and a chance to socialise and that is great too. I hope you can join us!"
