USW Engagement & Impact Awards 2024

The Engagement & Impact Awards 2024 are open for entries. The Awards recognise and celebrate the accomplishments of staff engaging in collaborative research, knowledge exchange, and innovation with external partners and stakeholders and the impact of that work on our communities and wider society beyond the University.

The Awards are open to all members of staff at USW, and applications can be made by individuals or teams. We welcome applications from researchers and academics at all career stages and in all disciplines. PhD students can also apply with their supervisor.

Winners from the 2022 Awards

Award prize 

All short-listed applications will have an impact film produced by an external professional video production company to celebrate and communicate their work and the impact achieved. Winning entries in each category will also receive a prize of £1,000 to support future impact-related activities. 

Award categories 

This year there are seven award categories: 

  • Impact on Crime, Security and Justice: recognises work which has improved e.g. policing and security, social policy, criminology, justice, cyber security, cyber-crime. 
  • Sustainable Environment Impact: recognises work that has helped to create a safer, healthier, more sustainable environment e.g. energy, biodiversity, conservation, sustainable resource management, reducing and minimising waste. 
  • Impact on Health & Wellbeing: recognises work that has enhanced e.g. quality of life, quality of service provision, health and wellbeing. 
  • Impact on Creative Industries: recognises work which has had impact in the creative industries, cultural and arts sectors, and digital economy. 
  • Business Innovation: celebrates impact arising from e.g. consultancy services, industrial collaboration, commercialisation of research including spinouts, licences. 
  • Civic Impact: recognises impact on civil society organisations, community organisations and individuals. It includes but is not limited to work to enhance active citizenship, social cohesion, cultural democracy, participation and inclusion. 
  • Engagement for Impact: this new award recognises best practice, innovative, creative, engagement approaches and practice to deliver impact.
