Dr Abdulkareem Karasuwa from Nigeria achieved his PhD in Electrical Engineering in July 2019 having already studied an electronics masters at USW.

"A PhD can lead to lots of opportunities in academia and R&D in industry. Thanks to my PhD I am now a course leader at a Higher Education Institution in the UK and enabled me to continue undertaking both pedagogical and technical research activities

"The PhD has supported my promotion in the job, and I will soon gain  professional registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng).

"Having already obtained an electronics masters degree at USW, I had an insight of what it could offer me as a doctoral student.

"The research team is headed by Professor Ifiok Otung and Professor Jonathan Rodriguez, leading figures in the field of mobile and satellite communication, and there are excellent facilities as well as industrial networks and collaborations.

"There is great support for PhD students at USW. The Graduate School staff are excellent people that work above and beyond to help us through every bit of our exciting journey.

"I was exposed to a variety of researcher development opportunities throughout my PhD from research management training and teacher training to health and safety training.

"Thanks to these opportunities, I am already a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) which was a real advantage when I made my move into academia."
